[FETV=유길연 기자] Amidst the new year’s banknote credit management is proceeding without much difficulty, a negative bankbook (Matong) is emerging as a new variable. Due to the surge in demand for’debt investment (investing in debt)’ due to the boom in the stock market, the number of new banks opened this month.
According to the financial sector on the 31st, the credit balance of the five major commercial banks (KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Hana, Woori, and NH Nonghyup) was 135.409.9 billion won as of the 28th, an increase of 1.761.7 billion won compared to the end of last year. It did not exceed the 2 trillion won mark of the monthly increase suggested by the financial authorities for the management of credit loans.
However, during the same period, the number of new Matong openings increased significantly. During the 19 business days of this month, it recorded 43,143, an increase of about 2,000 a day. This is twice the average number of openings per day (1000) at the end of last year.
As of the 28th, due to the rapid increase in the opening of Matong, the balance (used amount) of Matong loans (limited transaction loans or automatic bankbook loans) increased by 1,2148 billion won compared to the end of last year. In particular, when there was a subscription date for public offering stocks, the balance of Matong increased by 500 billion won a day.
In this situation, the financial authorities are recently focusing on’Matong Loan Management’. In particular, it is an atmosphere that pays attention to the management of the opening of Matong, which is set to a high limit.
Accordingly, banks are also working on management, such as reducing the limit on loans to Matong. Woori Bank recently lowered the maximum limit for Matong loan products from 80 million won to 100 million won to 50 million won. K-Bank also raised the interest rate of Matong loans for office workers by 0.1 percentage point. Kakao Bank has reduced the maximum limit of credit loan products for high-credit workers, including Maton loans, by 50 million won (150 million won → 100 million won).
