A body that appears to have been neglected for about 30 years was found on the roof of a building in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.

The Dongdaemun Police Station announced on the 15th that a body that changed like a mummy was found in a large rubber container on the roof of a 3-story multi-family house in Jegi-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, and is under investigation.

The body was found on the afternoon of the 10th when an employee of a cleaning company who was cleaning the rooftop reported “It smells bad.”

The police secured a statement from the building owner, A, stating that “the father seems to have been keeping the body for about 30 years without having a funeral after his mother (Mr. A’s grandmother) died.”

On the 12th, the police commissioned the National Institute for Scientific Investigation to analyze the identity of the body and said that if the body was confirmed to be a relative of B, it would summon and investigate Mr. B in a nursing hospital.

A police official said, “It will not be easy to confirm that Mr. B, who is in his 80s, is suffering from dementia,” he said. “We should also check the statute of limitations.”
