Nuclear power plant coolant overflows… “Aftershocks continue, bigger earthquakes may come”

Car Stadium Landslide… The exterior walls and signs of the building are also falling
“A small amount of cooling water from the 1st nuclear power plant overflows…no problem for safety”

A while ago, our Tokyo correspondent arrived in Fukushima. Let’s connect the site right away.

Correspondent Yoon Seol-young heard that it was not easy to get from Tokyo to Fukushima because the transportation was cut off. Where are you now?

[기자]

The place where I am now is Fukushima Station in Fukushima Prefecture.

Due to the earthquake that occurred yesterday (the 13th), all Tohoku Shinkansen lines passing through this Fukushima Station have been suspended.

It is expected that it will take 10 days for the Shinkansen to be fully restored.

I went up here by car from Tokyo and looked around.

In Koori-machi, where an earthquake of about 6 magnitudes occurred, an old house was almost destroyed and was on the verge of collapse.

The gate completely collapsed, and I could see all the housekeeping in the house.

Fortunately, no one has been injured because no one has been inhabited for over 20 years.

In addition, large and small accidents have occurred, such as landslides occurred at the automobile stadium and the outer walls of buildings or signs fell.

[앵커]

So, there were many people who were injured?

[기자]

According to NHK, 144 people were injured in the earthquake.

In the case of the Jindo River 6, there is a strong shaking that makes it difficult for people to get out on foot.

The Japanese government said there were three seriously injured and no missing persons or deaths.

The reason there are so many injuries is that there are many injuries due to the collapse of cupboards and bookcases and the building spills over.

[앵커]

I think a lot of people would have been surprised because it was the place where the great earthquake struck 10 years ago. Have you ever met and heard some stories?

[기자]

Because it is an area with many big and small earthquakes, it was a response that, although it was an area, I was quite surprised by this earthquake.

A restaurant owner in his 70s who met in Koori-machi said that this earthquake was almost the same as the Great East Japan Earthquake 10 years ago, and that it was scary. Let’s listen to the local people firsthand.

It is said that aftershocks keep coming. Did Correspondent Yun feel a little at the scene?

[기자]

It was subtle, but I could feel it. Earlier, I met with the residents about two hours ago, and during the interview, I felt like my feet were shaking.

The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that there could be an aftershock similar to yesterday in the next week or so.

They also said that there is a low probability of a bigger earthquake than yesterday.

[앵커]

Above all, I am concerned that the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant is safe.

[기자]

The Japan Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority said that although a small amount of cooling water overflowed from units 5 and 6 of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the amount of radiation was low and there were no safety problems.

Tokyo Electric Power Co., Ltd. said that it had been inspected until 2 pm today, but no other major abnormalities occurred.

In addition, a power outage occurred in 960,000 households such as Tokyo at one time, but most are expected to be restored by tomorrow morning.
