A player who was active in the boxing team in Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do has lived a’second life’ as a police officer. The player who achieved his dream as a child said, “My parents liked it the most,” and continued to laugh throughout the interview. This is the story of Choi Jin-seon (31, female), the 305th trainee who entered the Central Police School on the 24th of last month and started 32 weeks of education.

Choi said in a telephone interview with the JoongAng Ilbo, “I am still more familiar with the title of’player’ than’police officer’ and’trainee’.” Choi won the National Police Agency long-term boxing competition held last year. The National Police Agency’s long-term boxing competition is the first practical test of the’Cop Career Competition Recruitment Test’ through a martial arts contest. Choi, who has been active in the boxing team at Boryeong City Hall since January 2018, was recognized for his leadership as well as his athletic performance, and took over the captain last year. Boryeong City Hall and boxing team officials explained that they had a stronger sense of responsibility than other players. Last year, he participated in the light weight under 60kg at the National Sports Festival and ranked second.

Choi majored in police studies in college. He worked as a boxer after graduating while studying and exercising at the same time. But he still couldn’t give up his dream of becoming a police officer. The news that college classmates, seniors and juniors became police officers, rather stimulated Choi.

After Park Jin-ah (32, female), who was active in the boxing team of Boryeong City Hall, became a police officer with a martial arts special last year, his determination was strengthened. Park Jin-ah, who served as national team for the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and 2014 Incheon Asian Games, passed the police exam after winning the National Police Agency’s long-term boxing competition last year. He is currently working at a police station in Jeollanam-do.

“Service for the nation and the people, hope for the juniors of the movement”

Choi, who became a police officer, will remain in the boxing team of Boryeong City Hall. Although it is unpaid, it is possible to participate in various competitions such as national sports as a representative of Boryeong City Hall. It is a greeting of consideration and appreciation for the team he has been with for three years.

Mr. Choi said, “Female athletes who play in martial arts such as boxing are worried about retirement and second life as they get older. I hope to have it.”
