November online shopping transaction volume of 15 trillion trillion… Mobile shopping exceeded 10 trillion won

According to the’Online Shopping Trend’ released by the National Statistical Office on the 5th, the amount of online shopping transactions in November last year was 15.63 trillion won, an increase of 17.2% from the same period last year. It is the highest as of November since the statistics were prepared in 2001.

Mobile shopping transaction amount was 10,259.8 billion won, up 21.9% from the same period last year. It was the highest since the statistics were written in 2013, exceeding 10 trillion won for the first time. The proportion of mobile shopping out of the total transaction volume was 68.1%, the second highest ever.

In online shopping, food service (60.6%) increased the most, followed by food and beverages (47.1%), and home appliances, electronics, and communication devices (42.4%). On the other hand, travel and transportation services (-52.0%) and cultural and leisure services (-65.8%) declined significantly.

Mobile shopping also increased in food service (63.7%), food and beverages (54.6%), home appliances, electronic and communication devices (44.5%), and decreased in transportation services (-39.5%), and cosmetics (-28.7%).

Yang Dong-hee, head of the service industry trend of the Statistics Office, analyzed that “delivery food, household and kitchen appliances, cell phone sales, and daily necessities trade increased as the domestic life increased due to the Corona 19 effect.”

By product range, the total mall transaction amount was 10,2358 billion won, up 21.1% from the same period last year. The transaction amount of specialized malls increased by 9.8% to 4.827 trillion won.

By operation type, online mall transactions amounted to 11,24.3 billion won, up 26.3% from the same period last year. On-line and offline parallel mall transactions amounted to 4.38 trillion won, down 2.0% from the same period last year.

Manager Yang Dong-hee said, “The impact of social distancing caused by Corona 19 has continued, and as various consumer events were held in November, the amount of transactions seems to have skyrocketed.”
