The 23rd Division of the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement (President Judge Yoo Young-geun) sentenced 13 people, including former SK Chemicals CEO Hong Ji-ho and Ahn Yong-chan, former CEO of Aekyung Industries, to acquittal on the 12th, who were charged with negligence. The issue in this case was whether CMIT·MIT, which was used in the humidifier disinfectant of SK Chemicals and Aekyung Industrial, caused or intensified lung disease. The court judged that the causal relationship between CMIT and MIT and lung disease was not sufficiently proven.
“There is no evidence to admit the causal relationship between the use of humidifier disinfectants including CMIT and MIT and exacerbation of lung disease and asthma,” and said, “We will look into issues related to the injuries and deaths of victims on the premise of a causal relationship. There is no proof of crime without need.”
