Not because of the ruling party pressure… Bae Min’s Strange Complaint

One of the core contents of the win-win agreement ceremony that the People of Delivery will announce with the Democratic Party and the National Association of Franchise Owners is’providing personal information to regular customers’. It was decided to provide information such as the number of past orders and contact information (mobile phone number, etc.) of customers who received orders to the restaurant owner. Until now, the People of Delivery has refused to provide constant customer information from affiliates. However, ahead of this agreement, the policy was changed 180 degrees.

One of the reasons why the People of Delivery refused to provide regular personal information so far was’concerns about personal information infringement’. At the’Conference on the Enactment of the Online Platform Fairness Act’ hosted by the Fair Trade Commission in August last year, an official of the’Korea Startup Forum’ said, “There are many legal restrictions on various customer information handled on the platform. It is under the control of strict personal information protection laws (if you share it), and it is dangerous because there is a possibility of leakage.” The Korea Startup Forum is an organization that represents platform companies such as the People of Delivery, Market Curly Toss Jikbang. A representative of a startup also said, “If a frequent customer’s mobile phone number is leaked incorrectly and is abused by a crime, the platform company suffers a fatal blow.”

Organizations such as the Korea Food Service Industry Association and the Korea Franchise Industry Association have requested that the delivery app create a’consent to provide personal information’ checkbox so that users can determine the risk of personal information leakage. Now, when an order is placed through the delivery app, the customer’s mobile phone number is exposed to the restaurant terminal for about two hours and then disappears.

On the background of overturning the existing policy, the people of Bae-eui people responded that “providing information is a part of the original concern,” and “a dimension of win-win relations with the store owners.” It is an explanation that “it is absolutely not because of the pressure of the ruling party.”

However, other interpretations come out. It is related to the political schedule of Democratic Party President Lee Nak-yeon. Representative Lee’s actual term is until the 9th of next month. This is because I am running for the next presidential election. In the meantime, it is the time when something plausible outcome is needed. In addition, the by-election of Seoul and Busan mayors in April is ahead.
