Relief organizations pointed out that nearly 100,000 malnourished children will not receive adequate treatment while North Korea has blocked domestic and foreign movements to quarantine the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

According to the results of a survey of 11 aid organizations by the Expert Panel of the North Korea Sanctions Committee under the UN Security Council on the 3rd, the groups replied that most of the aid had not reached the target point due to the border blockade and domestic travel bans caused by Corona 19. .

One aid organization said, “Due to Corona 19 restrictions, about 440,000 children, pregnant and lactating women will not receive micronutrients, and 95,000 children with severe malnutrition will not receive the necessary treatment.”

It also estimated that no nutritionally fortified foods for 101,000 preschoolers will be delivered.

The group added that customs clearance of essential medicines, nutritional supplements, and water purification agents was delayed for four months in the border area. “Restrictions on movement are a concern for those in need of medical treatment for chronic diseases such as severe malnutrition or tuberculosis.”

Another group said, “Since January 2020, the progress and monitoring activities of international organizations have been restricted,” and “food security, agriculture, drinking water, and sanitation activities for 67,000 people have been affected.”

The expert panel surveyed 38 organizations from May to October 2020, and received responses from 11 organizations and reflected them in the report.
