Throughout the last year, North Korea, which suffered a triple death due to sanctions against North Korea, a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), and a flood, celebrated the New Year in 2021 with an entertaining performance and fireworks.

Chosun JoongAng TV broadcast live the New Year’s Celebration held at Kim Il-Sung Square in Pyongyang for about 50 minutes from 11 pm on the 31st of last month.

JoongAng TV illuminated the stage prepared in the plaza following the announcement of the announcer, “From now on, we will broadcast the New Year’s celebration performance, flag raising ceremony, and firearms launch.”

At the same time, the singers and dancers of the Moran Bong Electronic Orchestra, whom Chairman Kim Jong-un gave his name, appeared on the stage and performed dances and movements along with cheerful songs.

At the back of the stage, a large number ‘2021’ was installed decorated with colorful lights, and trees decorated with cotton and lights like a Christmas tree were also placed on both sides of the stage.

People dressed in snowman dolls and masks came out, one on each side, and ordered a response from the residents who came to see the performance.

Each of the audiences cheered with their mobile phones to capture the performance on the screen or holding balloons with various characters. There were also spectators holding balloons that resembled the American animation’Bear Pooh’.

The performance was followed by songs such as female mid-song, solo and male solo, followed by the national dance drum dance and the modern dance of the Wangjaesan Arts Troupe. When performing the song’People’s Happiness’, a rap with the content of’We are not afraid of anything, because the enemy is here’ attracted attention.

Throughout the performance, the stage and the audience were illuminated with lights to illuminate the surroundings as if it was evening.

When the stage ended with’Snow and Snowfall’, the audience said,’Wow!’ with paper pollen falling from above. And cheered.

Even in the situation of a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), no one of the performers on this day wore a mask. However, most of the audience watched with masks on.

The performance ended in 50 minutes, but a little later, a flag-raising ceremony and fireworks were held to open the New Year right from 0 o’clock on the 1st of this month.

JoongAng TV put the clock hand pointing to 0 o’clock on the screen, and immediately reflected the portraits of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il hung on the upper level of the People’s Study Hall behind the square.

Then, after the bell rang for a while, the national melody began, and the flag-raising ceremony began.

The residents of the plaza, who looked up as the national flag climbed the ferrule, immediately waved balloons or raised their hands to cheer as the fireworks began with music.

Colorful fireworks continued for about 10 minutes against the background of the flag-raising platform and the main tower opposite the square, illuminating the night sky. The fireworks bursting in the shape of a’smile’ (smiley face emoticon) also stood out.

Audiences were firmly armed with fur hats and gloves even in cold weather, and they kept their seats until the end while wearing masks on their faces. Although it was not caught on the screen of JoongAng TV, Chosun JoongAng Broadcasting, a radio broadcaster, said that each participant took pictures of each other.

North Korea has been holding fireworks every year since 2013, since Chairman Kim Jong-un took power.

However, this year, the spectacular unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) performance that appeared last year has not been performed.
