It is analyzed that armed protests can be resumed on the occasion of’Sunday’ (April 15th, President Kim Il-sung’s birthday), which North Korea considers as the biggest holiday. On the 25th of last month, North Korea has ceased its armed movements when the United States placed a position of “criticism” in the test launch of a “new tactical guided missile”.
Earlier, North Korea has shown military power through armed demonstrations and feverish ceremonies before and after the Sun Day after Kim Jong-un took office as the Labor Party’s general secretary.

The Biden administration defined this as a short-range ballistic missile launch by North Korea, and raised criticism for violating the resolution of the Security Council.
This is in contrast to the former US President Donald Trump who partially tolerated the launch of short-range ballistic missiles on the premise that North Korea did not cross the “red line” of ICBM and nuclear tests. There is also a story that North Korea’struck once’ with the Biden administration to control the intensity of the Sun-day armed demonstration.
In response to the US criticism, North Korea has announced an additional test by claiming that it is “an act that belongs to the sovereign state’s right to self-defense” through a speech by Labor Party Central Committee secretary Lee Byeong-cheol, but it has been added to the situation in which the US reacted sensitively to short-range ballistic missiles. There are many prospects that the burden is high to continue the armed demonstration.
However, there is a growing voice that North Korea needs to keep an eye on related trends as it can create tension without launching a missile, such as operating a nuclear facility in Yongbyon or launching a submarine at the Sinpo Shipyard. Whether President Biden issued a’warning’ to launch a ballistic missile, it is noteworthy what will be the next option for North Korea.
