The people of Myanmar are strongly opposing it as it is known that the plan to “reconvene the general election under ASEAN visitation” is being discussed as a diplomatic solution to the Myanmar coup.

Not only is it contrary to the will of the people of Myanmar to condemn the coup at the risk of their lives, but criticism that it only justifies the military coup is bursting, and the trend is drawing attention.

On the 24th, Reuters reported that Myanmar’s military affairs minister Unna Maung Lewin visited Thailand, citing sources from the Thai government.

The Kyodo news agency also quoted diplomatic sources and delivered the same content.

He was the foreign minister of the government of Tein Sain, a former military man, and returned to head of diplomacy by the military government after the coup.

Sources said that Minister Unna Maung Lewin had visited Thailand for consultations to find a diplomatic solution at the ASEAN level, the news agency said.

If it is true that he visited Thailand, this is the first case of a foreign country visit by the military government after the coup on the 1st.

This report is notable because Indonesia, the core ASEAN country, is seeking an ASEAN-level solution to the Myanmar coup.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Letno Masudi said he was planning to visit Myanmar on the 25th, but after the controversy spread as related documents were released, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would cancel the visit this morning.

However, it is known that Retno is currently visiting Thailand, and some observers say that the visit by the foreign minister of the military government to Thailand is for an interview with Minister Retno.

Regarding the ASEAN-level solution to the Myanmar crisis, media reports have reported that Indonesia has proposed that ASEAN member states send election watchdogs so that Myanmar can hold a fair new general election.

When the backlash came out, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stepped back, saying, “It does not support the new elections in Myanmar.”

In Myanmar, there was a strong backlash, mainly on SNS.

One netizen wrote, “Asean, respect our vote (results). Re-election is not necessary.” Another netizen urged, “Indonesia, stand on our side. Don’t support military coups.”

“We are protesting at the expense of our lives, and the reconsideration of the general election is an acknowledgment of the Myanmar military.”

Even though there was serious denial in the general election in November last year, which resulted in the overwhelming victory of the National League for Democracy and National Affairs (NLD) led by state adviser Aung San Suu Kyi, the government could give an indulgence to the military who claimed that it had no choice but to initiate a coup because the government did not resolve it.

Local media reported that hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Indonesian embassy in Yangon and shouted’opposite to re-implement the general election.’

Meanwhile, protests against the coup were held on the 19th day in major cities such as Yangon.

In Yangon, local media reported that ethnic minorities took part in street demonstrations with employees of the Ministry of Energy participating in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).

Over 130 human rights and civic groups, including the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) and the Asia Democracy Institute, have urged member states to ban arms exports against the military regime in Myanmar, a foreign report said.

In a statement, these groups stressed that “the sale or transfer of any form of military-related equipment may provide an additional means of civil repression in violation of international human rights law.”
