NIS, establishes’Carbon Neutral Standardization Strategy Roadmap’ in the first half

Contribution to realization of carbon neutrality through standardization in renewable E and hydrogen fields

Creation of a new promising low-carbon industry ecosystem and support for entry into the global market

Carbon-neutral standardization strategy reflected in the ‘5th National Standard Basic Plan’

[지앤이타임즈] We will actively develop standards that can realize carbon neutrality by utilizing’green tech technologies’ such as excellent low-carbon technologies and digital technologies in the battery and hydrogen fields possessed by Korea.

The National Agency for Technology and Standards of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 7th that it will focus on carbon-neutral standardization as this year’s signature policy.

In order to contribute to the government’s realization of carbon neutrality in 2050, the NIS will support the creation of an ecosystem of new and promising low-carbon industries such as new and renewable energy, hydrogen and electric vehicles, and entry into the global market.

In addition, the carbon-neutral standardization strategy will be reflected in the ‘5th National Standard Basic Plan’ to be announced in March, and a’carbon-neutral standardization strategy roadmap’ containing specific standardization tasks and strategic goals will be established in the first half of the year.

To this end, the standard research and development (R&D) budget will be 62.2 billion won, an increase of 14.3 billion won, 30% from 47.9 billion won last year, to promote the largest standard development ever.

In addition, cooperation with foreign countries will be strengthened, such as regularization of a standard cooperation policy council with low-carbon industrial and technological powerhouses.

The US will promote cooperation in high-tech industries such as quantum technology, artificial intelligence, and future cars, and also hold the S-Dialogue in the second half of this year for standard cooperation in low-carbon and carbon-neutral fields.

In the second half of this year, a standard cooperation dialogue on smart technology and future vehicles will be held with Germany.

The Northeast Asian Standards Cooperation Forum is scheduled to be held in June to promote public-private standardization solidarity through standard cooperation between Korea, China, and Japan and to increase the efficiency of common standardization.

“This year will be the first year of a major transformation for Korea to move forward to a leading economy through digital innovation and carbon-neutral strategy,” said Seung-Woo Lee, Director of the National Institute of Technology and Standards. “I will focus all of the capabilities of the NIS to improve and strengthen international competitiveness.”
