Netmarble also raises annual salary of 8 million won for employees following Nexon… starting salary of 50 million won

Following Nexon, Netmarble raised the annual salary of all employees by 8 million won. Competition for securing talent in the IT industry is fierce, and major companies are stepping up to raise their salaries one after another.

Netmarble

According to the game industry on the 10th, Netmarble announced a plan to increase the annual salary of all executives and employees by 8 million won through an in-house announcement this afternoon. Accordingly, the initial wage for new recruits is 50 million won for the developer and 45 million won for non-development workers. It is the same amount as Nexon, which announced a lump sum increase of 8 million won in annual salary, and is the same as the annual salary of new Naver employees. Along with this, Netmarble decided to provide additional points of 100,000 won per month in addition to 100,000 won for meal support from March this year. It is worth 1.2 million won per year. For dinner, the amount of support was increased from 7,000 won to 10,000 won. This is because the burden of meal expenses increased due to the relocation of the company building. An official from Netmarble said, “Even in a global pandemic, we have increased our annual salary to compensate for the contributions of all employees to the company’s growth and to secure excellent talent.”

The starting salary for new developers of Netmarble, Nexon, and Naver is 1.5 times more than the average annual salary of 3,347 million won for college graduates in 2020, a conglomerate with 500 or more employees disclosed by the Ministry of Employment and Labor last year. Based on the main salary, the annual salary of new college graduates is more than 10% higher than that of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which are known to be around 45 million won. An industry official said, “As the ransom of IT personnel has risen, mainly for developers, it is essential to raise the salary to secure excellent talent.” said.

Among the three major game companies in Korea, Nexon and Netmarble raise their salaries, and NCsoft’s (NC) moves are drawing attention from the industry. As NC will negotiate annual salary in March-April next year, it is also possible to announce plans to increase salary during this period. An NC official said, “We plan to review the related contents during the salary negotiation period.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, Netmarble announced last year’s earnings of KRW 2,484.8 billion in consolidated sales and KRW 272 billion in operating profit. Compared to the previous year, sales increased by 14% and operating profit by 34.2%. The operating margin, which was considered a weakness, also succeeded in improving slightly from 9.2% in 2019 to 10.9% in 2020. Overseas sales, which increased by 23% compared to 2019, led the earnings growth.
