In Korea, nearly 1,000 cases have been reported to the health authorities after vaccination against a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). According to the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team on the 9th, a total of 936 cases of new adverse reactions reported after vaccination as of 0 o’clock on the day.

The number of death reports increased by two more than the same time the day before, and the cumulative 13 people. To date, it has not been confirmed whether there is a causal relationship between these deaths and vaccination. Details of the deceased will be announced through a press release this afternoon.

The number of suspected cases of’anaphylaxis’, a severe systemic allergic reaction, also increased. The remaining 924 cases were reported as relatively mild symptoms such as headache, fever, nausea, and vomiting.

As a result, after the vaccination was started on the 26th of last month, the number of suspected adverse reactions in Korea increased to 4,851 cases. As of 0 o’clock on this day, it is 1.27% of the 382,346 cumulative inoculations in Korea.

When categorizing adverse reaction reports by vaccine type, AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine related 4,821 cases, accounting for 99.4% of all reports. There were 30 reports (0.6%) related to Pfizer vaccine. This difference appears to be due to the large difference between the number of AstraZeneca vaccinations (377,000,138) and Pfizer vaccinations (6,208). The reporting rate of adverse reactions compared to those inoculated is 1.28% for AstraZeneca vaccine and 0.48% for Pfizer vaccine.

Dividing the adverse reaction cases reported so far by type, there were 43 cases of suspected anaphylaxis, 5 cases of serious suspicion including convulsions or admission to the intensive care unit, and 13 cases of death. Suspected cases of anaphylaxis are largely divided into anaphylaxis, anaphylaxis, and anaphylactic shock reactions. Of the 43 cases reported so far, 42 cases were anaphylactic reactions and 1 case was anaphylactic shock.

Anaphylaxis-like reaction is when systemic symptoms such as dyspnea and urticaria appear within 2 hours after vaccination. The symptoms are similar to anaphylaxis, but experts explain that it is not a big problem as symptoms can be improved with symptomatic therapy.

In addition, 4,790 cases, which account for 98.7% of all reports of adverse reactions, are mild cases such as headache, fever, nausea, and vomiting, which are common after vaccination, the promotion team explained. The quarantine authorities are looking at the causal relationship between cases of severe adverse reactions such as death and vaccination.

Earlier, as a result of the review of the’Vaccination Damage Investigation Group’ meeting held on the 7th, the promotion team said, “It was tentatively judged as a case where the causality between adverse reactions and death after vaccination was difficult to be recognized” regarding the previously reported 8 death cases. The remaining cases are currently being investigated based on epidemiological investigations.
