Naver, not even a day again… Cloud service connection error this time

Following Google, the portal site Naver continued to experience service failures for two days in a row.

According to the industry on the 25th, Naver’s enterprise cloud service caused a disruption once in the afternoon.

The Naver Cloud Platform urgently posted a notice saying, “We are sorry for the inconvenience in using the service,” saying, “Temporary access error has been identified and urgent inspection and restoration work after determining the cause” when a problem occurred in the afternoon. A Naver official explained, “It is a phenomenon that I cannot log in to some consoles temporarily due to a hardware (HW) failure, and it has been normalized immediately.”

In the afternoon of the previous day, some services such as news, cafes, and blogs caused access failure for an hour. Instead of the normal screen, only the message “Temporary service failure” appeared on the screen. In particular, the inconvenience of users was great due to service failures that occurred in mobile and computer (PC).

However, the cause of the disorder has not been identified so far. The industry is also putting weight on the possibility of errors caused by an external’distributed service denial (DDOS/DDoS) attack. DDoS is an attack method that intentionally generates a large amount of access (traffic) by mobilizing multiple servers and exceeds the server capacity. Naver was also attacked by DDoS in 2009 and 2011, causing some service failures. The Ministry of Science, ICT and ICT has not ruled out the possibility of a DDoS attack.

Netizens are raising voices of dissatisfaction with the service failures of Internet companies that have risen one after another this year. In the case of Google and Naver, which have recently created an error of’meeting’, there are so many users, so if a service failure occurs, the damage to consumers will naturally increase.

In particular, on the 23rd, even though an error occurred in the Google Android operating system (OS), criticism was poured out for “procrastination” as Google posted a guide only 7 hours after the error occurred. The Korea Communications Commission, a ministry in charge, also announced that it would consider whether there is a case for compensation for damages over Google’s service error.
