Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalni, imprisoned in prison, is known to be in deteriorating health.

According to the British Guardian on the 24th of the local time, Leonid Volkov, leader of the Russian opposition party, said, “One side of Navalni’s leg is numb and suffers from severe back pain.”

He added, “Health has deteriorated rapidly and this makes Navalni unable to stand up.” Currently, Navalni is confined in an IK-2 prison in Vladimir, Russia. It is known as a prison, notorious for harassment.

Olga Mihailova, Navalni’s lawyer, insisted that Navalni was not getting the right care. “The neurologist didn’t tell me what was wrong with Navalni,” he told AFP. “I just prescribed ibuprofen (anti-inflammatory analgesic).

“The pain medication didn’t help, and Navalni’s leg was paralyzed on the 23rd.”

There were also claims that the prison was blocking meetings with Navalni.

Volkov argued that prison authorities were hiding the fact that Navalni was taken to the prison infirmary. “I don’t know where Navalni is or why they hide him from lawyers,” he said on Facebook.

“As Navalni’s health is rapidly deteriorating, concerns are being raised,” said Maria Pevchik, head of the Navalni Anti-Corruption Foundation. “I do.”

Navalni, who is known as President Vladimir Putin’s static, fell into a coma after showing signs of poisoning on an airplane in August last year. Afterwards, he was transferred to Germany to receive first aid and recover.

Navalni, who returned to Russia in January of this year, was arrested at the airport upon returning home. He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for violating the terms of probation previously convicted of fraud while undergoing addiction treatment in Germany. The Russian government was behind Navalni’s poisoning, but the Russian authorities denied it.

Currently, there are voices in Russia calling for the release of Navalni. The group requesting the release of Navalni plans to hold a protest after 500,000 people gather. It is known that about 200,000 people have announced their intention to attend.
