Russian opposition activist Alexey Navalni’s home in Moscow, detained after returning home after receiving poisoning treatment in Germany, was searched by the police on the 27th (local time), his aides said.
According to the Interfax news agency, Ivan Zdanov, head of the Anti-Corruption Foundation led by Navalni, said that several people in masks on Twitter today broke the door of Navalni’s apartment on Ljublinskaya Street in the Mariino district southeast of Moscow and searched for the house.
Zdanov also introduced that Navalni’s other apartments and anti-corruption foundation offices in Moscow were also searched.
He said the police search appears to be related to protests calling for the release of Navalni in Moscow and other major cities across the country on the 23rd.
The authorities explained that it was related to the incident that caused a large-scale infection when Navalni supporters broke the “ban of assembly” regulations, which are restrictions on the quarantine of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
According to local media, more than 110,000 people participated in protests calling for the release of Navalni in more than 110 cities across Russia on the 23rd, and more than 3500 people were arrested.
More than 20,000 people are known to have participated in the protests in Moscow alone.
Navalni, who fell into a coma from poison poisoning in August last year, returned to Korea on the 17th after recovering from treatment in Berlin, Germany, but was immediately arrested by authorities at the airport.
A Khimki court near Moscow granted Navalni’s 30-day detention on the 18th, and Navalni was later transferred to a detention center in Moscow city and imprisoned.
The Federal Penal Enforcement Authority, a Russian correctional authority, explained the reason for the arrest, saying that Navalni was on the wanted list for failing to comply with the obligation of probation in connection with the conviction in the 2014 fraud case.
The enforcement agency has filed a lawsuit for cancellation of probation and conversion to prison in Moscow’s Simonov district court for violating Navalni’s obligation to probate.
The trial is scheduled to take place on the 2nd of next month.
