Subway Line 9 is extended through Gangil-dong and Hanam in Seoul to Wangsuk New Town in Namyangju, Gyeonggi-do, the largest of the 3rd new towns. The goal is to open in 2028. The Goyang Line, a new railroad line leading to Saejeol Station in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, will be opened in Goyang Changneung New Town, and the metropolitan area metropolitan express train (GTX) line A will be built.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 29th that it has confirmed measures to improve traffic in new cities such as Namyangju Wangsuk and Goyang Changneung after deliberation by the Metropolitan Area Transportation Committee. Namyangju Wangsuk and Goyang Changneung are planned for the 3rd new city with 66,000 and 38,000 houses, respectively. The countermeasure is to expand investment in public transportation so that 30 minutes of commuting from the new city to downtown Seoul is possible.

In Wangsuk New Town, where 66,000 units are scheduled to be built, 2.3 trillion won will be invested in 18 projects. First of all, the extension project for subway line 9 connecting Hanam-Namyangju with Line 9 ending at Gangil Station in Gangdong was reflected. The total project cost is expected to be about 1.5 trillion won.

In Wangsuk 1 and 2 districts, the history of the Gyeongchun Line and the Gyeongui Jungang Line are newly established. Gyeongchun Line Station, which will be newly established in Wangsuk District 1, is scheduled to stop on the GTX line B, with a total project cost of 52 billion won. It costs 38.3 billion won to establish the history of Gyeongui Central City. Byeolnae Line, an extension of Line 8, starts from Byeolnae Station and extends to meet Jinjeom Line, and the total project cost is 90 billion won.

In the case of the above-ground road network, a public transportation improvement project on the north riverside road leading to Gangbyeon Station in Seoul is promoted, and the total project cost is 32.3 billion won. The goal is to shorten the travel time from Wangsuk to the riverside by about 30 minutes by having a bus passage system using a reverse flow variable median.

The expansion of Olympic Expressway and the construction of the Gangil Interchange (IC) bypass will also proceed. It is also planning to promote the establishment of a new Han River bridge to diversify traffic demand along the Han River. A total of 2.3 trillion won will be invested in 18 projects including subway extension.

In Changneung New Town, where 38,000 units are scheduled to be built, 2.2 trillion won will be invested in 16 projects. Among them, 1.4 trillion won will be spent on the urban railroad project from Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul to downtown Goyang. It is a line connecting Goyang City Hall from Saejeol Station, which is a transfer station for Subway Line 6 and West Line. The construction of Changneung Station on the GTX line A is also being promoted. It is to add a station at Changneung Station between Daegok Station and Yeonsinnae Station.

On the ground, bus lanes will be installed to link the BRT (arterial express bus system) and a wide area bus transportation system improvement project will be promoted. The plan is to install a transfer facility at Hwajeon Station so that transfers between means of transportation are possible, and link the BRT and railroads to Jungang-ro from Daehwa to Sinchon. In addition, expansion of Seooreung-ro, a new connecting road, and expansion of Gangbyeonbuk-ro were planned.

These projects are finalized after a preliminary feasibility study by public institutions. An official from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said, “If the metropolitan traffic improvement measures are implemented, the main travel time will be shortened from 40 minutes to 10 minutes for Seoul Station and 50 to 25 minutes for Yeouido.” The road traffic conditions in the northwestern region of the metropolitan area will also improve,” he said.

The metropolitan area traffic improvement measures for Incheon Gyeyang New Town and Bucheon Daejang New Town are scheduled to be deliberated by the Metropolitan Area Traffic Committee on the 30th. Gyosan New Town in Hanam and Gwacheon District in Gwacheon, which previously confirmed traffic measures in May, will proceed with the licensing procedure for each project from next year.
