The aftermath of a group infection at a plastic factory in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province is spreading to other regions. Related patients came from Namyangju city as well as Gyeonggi Ansan and Bucheon city.
Gyeonggi-do Corona 19 Emergency Response Director Lim Seung-gwan said at a regular press conference held on the 18th, “As of 11 am on this day, there are 119 new coronavirus infections (Corona 19) patients in the province related to the Namyangju plastic factory.”
A bunch of patients came out of this factory after A foreign worker was first confirmed in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the 13th. Of the 119 confirmed cases, 118 factory workers and 1 contact were included. Of these, 109 are foreign workers from 17 countries, including China and Cambodia, Gyeonggi Province explained.
By region, there are 117 people in Namyang-si and 2 in Ansan-si.
However, according to the statistics of Namyangju City, 123 people were confirmed as three families of the confirmed patients and one other factory employee were additionally confirmed.
Two related patients also occurred in Bucheon City. Ansan city also added one more. It was confirmed that patients were also present in other regions, including five in Seoul and one in Jeonnam.
The quarantine authorities set up a temporary screening and inspection station in the Jingwan industrial complex where this plastic factory is located, and is conducting a thorough investigation of 1,300 employees of 59 tenant companies. Epidemiological investigations are also underway on restaurants and shuttle buses in industrial complexes used by factory workers with outbreaks.

To date, 169 of the 177 employees at the plant have been inspected. Gyeonggi-do has closed the entire building of the factory and is inquiring for seven foreigners who cannot be reached.
Manager Lim analyzed, “The high positive rate even though the infection was confirmed early means that the time when the virus was introduced into the plant has passed for a long time.”
On the same day, the quarantine authorities sent a text message for safety information, saying, “People who visited Namyangju plastic factory after the 26th of last month must undergo a diagnostic test.”
