Nak-Yeon Lee “Press Reform, Malicious Reporting Anti-social” Reasons for Emphasis on Daily

The background is attracting attention after Lee Nak-yeon, representative of the Democratic Party, emphasized the smooth implementation of the media reform legislation day after day and criticized malicious reporting as an anti-social crime.

Representative Lee said at the Supreme Council meeting on the 3rd, in celebration of the extraordinary National Assembly that began in February, “We will carry out the reform of the prosecutors’ office along with the 3 Act on Win-Win Cooperation and Media Reform without any problems.” The great waters of reform were opened. In order to solidify the foundation for such reforms, follow-up legislation and innovation in the organizational culture of the prosecution must be continued.”

Representative Lee stressed that “there is not much to be dealt with in this session as well.” In particular, Lee said, “Malicious reporting that is not based on facts is an anti-social crime that spreads social confusion and distrust,” and “minimal measures are inevitable to protect the rights and honor of the people and to maintain stability and trust in society.”

Representative Lee ordered that he hoped that the media reform bill prepared by the Media Press Win-Win TF in charge of Supreme Commissioner Roh Woong-rae would be handled without a hitch.

In a back briefing with me after the Supreme Council meeting, Choi In-ho, together with the Democratic Party’s chief spokesman, asked,’The media reform law was being promoted. “There aren’t many media-related laws,” he said. “The media will compare and review each bill in the Media Win-Win TF and make various legislative plans.”

Regarding the media reform legislation, Lee Nak-yeon emphasized in his speech at the bargaining group the day before. In a speech from the representative of the bargaining organization on the 2nd, Lee explained the bills that solved the problems of the times, such as the Prosecution Reform Act, the 3rd Fair Economy Act, and the Severe Disaster Punishment Act, including the establishment of an airlift and the adjustment of the prosecution authority. He also pointed out that there are many people waiting for related laws.”

Specifically, it has not disclosed which legislation will be prioritized. As President Lee Nak-yeon mentioned on this day, it seems that he is more interested in drafting a bill that mainly demands responsibility for fake news.

On the other hand, Kim Jong-min, a former reporter, and the Democratic Party’s highest committee member, said at a meeting on the 3rd, “The leader of the public party confidently spoke of fake news that might be buzzing in the KakaoTalk room of the far right, such as the North Korean nuclear power remarks by Chairman Kim and the’v’ VIP remarks of Candidate Se-hoon Oh. It turns out that the future of conservative politics in Korea is very dark.” Representative Lee Nak-yeon also repeatedly criticized the vaccine-related fake news on the 13th as an anti-social crime.
