Myanmar’s military will attend the Southeast Asian Confederation (ASEAN) meeting on the 2nd (local time). After the coup, they are expected to disclose their position to the international community for the first time.

According to Reuters on the 1st, Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrushinan attended the parliament and said, “A special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will be held by video tomorrow, and we will hear the comments of the Myanmar military delegation at this meeting.”

Foreign ministers attending the meeting are expected to voice concern to the Myanmar military, which caused a massive bloodshed. When at least 18 people were killed in a shooting against the anti-coup protesters on the 28th of last month, public opinion in the international community towards the Myanmar military is worsening. Minister Balakrushinan also urged on the day to “take immediate action to prevent further bloodshed.”

ASEAN, a council of 10 Southeast Asian countries, has been promoting the holding of a special foreign ministers meeting to find a solution to this situation led by Indonesia. On the 24th of last month, Foreign Minister Unna Maung Lewin appointed by the Myanmar Military Government in Bangkok, Thailand, met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Letno Masudi and Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramutwinai. However, it is not known what kind of discussion took place during the interview that took place for about 20 minutes.
