A meeting of the foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will be held on the 2nd to find a solution to the Myanmar coup.

According to the Daily Straits Times, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrushinan attended the parliament on the 1st and said, “A special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is scheduled to be held by videoconference tomorrow, and we will listen to the remarks of the delegation of the military government of Myanmar.” This meeting is expected to be the first time that the military regime, which took power by a coup on the 1st of last month, reveals its position to the international community for the first time.

ASEAN, a council of 10 Southeast Asian countries, has been promoting the holding of a special foreign ministers meeting to resolve the situation led by Indonesia. On the 24th of last month, Foreign Minister Unna Maung Lewin appointed by the Myanmar Military Government in Bangkok, Thailand, met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Letno Masudi and Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramutwinai. It is not known what kind of discussion took place during the interview, which lasted for about 20 minutes.

Some media previously reported that Indonesia’s’comfort’ is to hold a new general election under ASEAN’s observation to prevent further confusion and loss of life. Myanmar’s military government took power in a coup on the 1st for the reason that corruption occurred in the general election in November last year, and the civil government did not investigate it.
