An American grandfather in his 90s retrieved a wallet that had been lost in Antarctica after 53 years.

According to the Associated Press on the 6th (local time), Paul Gresham, 91, who lives in San Diego, California, recently received a wallet in his 30s by mail, which he lost at an Antarctic research base in the United States. Grisham lost his wallet when he was sent to an Antarctic base as a meteorologist belonging to the US Navy in the late 1960s.

Grisham’s wallet was found in the back of a locker during the demolition work at McMurdo Station in Antarctica in 2014. Site officials have kept the wallet for years and then sent the wallet to Stephen Decato, who had worked with him in the past.

This is because I heard the news that Dikato found the lost navy ID bracelet to the original owner with the help of a non-profit organization supporting veterans. After receiving Gresham’s wallet, Dikato contacted a group of veterans again. The group contacted the Naval Meteorological Association and secured Grisham’s address.

In the wallet that Gresham recovered, the navy ID card, driver’s license, and card that contained the countermeasures in case of an attack on a chemical room remained intact. They also found a beer distribution confirmation card, a tax withholding certificate, and a money order receipt sent to his wife.

Gresham said, “(After receiving the wallet) I was just astonished,” and thanked him that thanks to the help of many people, he was able to get the wallet back.
