Netflix’s paid subscribers exceeded 200 million as of the deadline in 2020, major foreign media such as Cnet reported on the 19th (local time).

These figures will be a milestone for Netflix to establish itself as the industry’s largest subscription streaming service, Cnet said. In the highly competitive online video service (OTT) market, Disney Plus has 86.8 million subscribers and Disney’s Hollu subscribers 38.8 million, showing a big difference from Netflix.

Netflix reported its 4Q 2020 results on the same day, and announced that the number of subscribers increased by 851 million in the fourth quarter of last year alone, reaching a total of 23.6 million paid subscribers. This is well beyond analysts’ 4Q forecast of 6 million. On the back of strong earnings, Netflix shares rose about 11 percent to $558 in after-hours trading.

Netflix’s high growth is analyzed because the demand for online streaming services has soared as many people stayed at home due to the Corona 19 incident.

Netflix’s growth has already been predicted, Cnet said. Netflix ended the one-month free trial service that was provided to secure new subscribers in the United States in October last year, and increased prices for some plans. In this market, where numerous competitors continue to emerge, Netflix reduced its free trial and increased its price, Cnet said, saying it was confident of growth.

Netflix added 860,000 new subscribers in the U.S. and Canada in the fourth quarter of last year, to a total of 73.9 million subscribers. In the Asia Pacific region, it added 2 million new members, reaching 25.5 million.
