There are less than two weeks left of the Seoul Mayor’s by-election, and each party’s campaign is in full swing. In the midst of this, he announced that he would accuse the Netflix drama advertisement of violating the Public Officials Election Act without the power of the public.
The commercial in question is a bus advertisement for the Netflix original drama’If You Like It.’ The power of the people is that the phrase “I like Democrats!” is written on bus No. 140 in Seoul, which travels around Hyehwa-dong, Gangnam Station, and Yangjae Station, and this is a clear election intervention promoting the Democratic Party.

People’s Power Rep. Park Dae-chul said in the JoongAng Ilbo that the drama does not have a role of’democratic’. He said it wasn’t violating, so now a clever advertisement hits the board.”
‘Let’s do TBS’ work (1)’, which Congressman Park mentioned, is a campaign launched by TBS with the intent to increase the number of subscribers by even one more. In January, the people’s power pointed out that these campaigns are close to pre-election campaigns to support the first Democratic Party, ahead of the Seoul Mayor’s election.
Then, why did Netflix use the name’Democracy’ in its commercials, which doesn’t even appear in dramas? It turned out that this bus advertisement was both a drama promotion and an event for viewers.
Netflix held an event to receive a story and confess on behalf of the first broadcast of Season 2 of’If You Like It’ in February. A total of 41 names were chosen for this event. Minjoo was one of them, and there was an advertisement “I love Minju,” on 12 bus routes in Seoul. The advertisement was commissioned for a month from March 1st to 31st.
Netflix countered that there were various names such as Hana, Hyunju, Yejin, etc. besides Minju, but clarified, “This is the part I did not think of at all, but it happened to be like this.” Currently, all of Netflix’s’democratic’ bus advertisements have been removed.
