A new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine to be vaccinated against the USFK arrived in Korea on the 25th. It is the first Corona 19 vaccine that entered Korea.

According to Incheon International Airport, a FedEx freighter (Flight FX5230) departing from Memphis in the U.S. carrying the first quantity of the Corona 19 vaccine for the USFK vaccination arrived at Incheon Airport around 12:54 pm on the same day.

The vaccine that arrived this time is a product of Modena, which has been approved for emergency use by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), following Pfizer’s vaccine, and is about 1,000 doses.

The US military is expected to start vaccinating the vaccine next week after moving the vaccine to Brian Allgood Hospital at Humphreys Base in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do. According to the guidelines of the US Department of Defense, first responders, including doctors and nurses belonging to the USFK, and firefighters, receive the vaccine. When additional supplies arrive, the targets for vaccination will be expanded to USFK soldiers and their families.

On the 14th, USFK commander Robert Abrams appeared on the AFN US military radio broadcast, saying, “Medical staff on the front line of the corona will be the first to receive the vaccination.”

Brian Allgood Hospital also has 40 KATUSA soldiers (KATUSA assigned to the US military) in charge of compulsory administration, and these are likely to be included in the vaccination. In this case, they become the first Koreans to get the vaccine in Korea.

In addition, the policy is to allow all members of the USFK to receive the vaccine when an additional amount of vaccine comes in, so KATUSA Soldiers and Korean military personnel are also expected to be targeted. The specific schedule will be determined according to discussions between the US and the ROK and progress of additional vaccine supply.
