[천지일보=이지솔 기자] Sales of a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine developed by the US pharmaceutical company Modena are expected to reach $18.4 billion (20 trillion won) this year.

According to Reuters on the 25th (local time), Moderna is expected to generate sales of $18.4 billion (about 20.45 trillion won) from the Corona 19 vaccine.

Modena, which announced the final test result of 95% prevention efficiency on November 16 last year, began actual vaccination with the second approved vaccine in the United States on December 21. Subsequently, 27 countries in the European Union (EU) started vaccination with the second vaccine after Pfizer from January 18.

Currently, the countries that have approved Modena vaccines are the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Canada, the European Union, Israel and Switzerland.

Modena said it expects to produce 700 million injections this year, and added that it is trying to increase its production capacity to 1 billion injections.

Earlier this month, Pfizer, a US pharmaceutical company that developed the only approved vaccine besides Modena, said earlier this month that vaccine sales are expected to reach $15 billion in 2021.

Pfizer and Bioentech plan to increase production of jointly developed vaccines from this year’s plan to produce 2 billion doses.
