Pitt Walker pitching coach of the Toronto Blue Jays (MLB) in the US expressed satisfaction with Hyun-jin Ryu (34), who steadily raised the pace in winter training.
In a video interview with the reporter on the 22nd (Korean time), Walker pitching coach said, “I look better than I was at this time last year.”
He added, “(Toronto Spring Camp’s first year) Ryu Hyun-jin feels much more comfortable than last year,” he added. “I raised the pitching pace enough to throw 50 balls out of the bullpen.”
Ryu Hyun-jin, who returned to Korea in October last year, took a month off and prepared for 2021 in earnest from November.
Ryu Hyun-jin, who reawakened mainly with physical strength and strength training, played catch ball at a distance of 70 meters for two weeks in Seogwipo, Jeju-do in January of this year, and did light pitching training.
Considering that he returned to his original schedule of 162 games per team, Ryu Hyun-jin improved his stamina until the end of his departure and left for the United States on February 3.
Upon arriving in the United States, he immediately moved to the team’s spring camp facility in Dunedin, Florida, and entered the actual pitching mode in preparation for a demonstration game.
Toronto, which opened the spring camp with pitching and catcher practice on the 18th, will play 28 demonstration games starting with the New York Yankees on March 1st and until March 31st.
As Toronto announces that it will use Dunedin’s TD Ball Park as a new home stadium for the regular league until Canada’s new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) quarantine guidelines are eased, Ryu Hyun-jin is preparing for the season in a more stable environment than last year when he was wandering.
