Report on’Ministry of Unification, Restrictions on Activities of North Korean Defectors’

“The US State Department report is still… Comment is early”

[천지일보=김성완 기자] The Ministry of Unification announced on the 22nd that the Tokyo Summer Olympics in Japan in July will be held without foreign audiences.

Unification Ministry spokesman Lee Jong-ju answered in this way at a regular briefing at the government office on the same day when asked about Japan’s decision not to accept foreign spectators during the Tokyo Olympics in July due to a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

He added, “The government has repeatedly revealed its position that it will continue to promote the peace process on the Korean Peninsula. Various opportunities can be used to promote the peace process on the Korean Peninsula, and the Tokyo Olympics will be one of those opportunities.” .

Until now, the government has regarded the Tokyo Olympics as an opportunity to turn dialogue between the two Koreas as well as between the two Koreas.

Spokesman Lee also said, “The report has not been officially released yet in the report that the US State Department’s ‘2020 Korean Human Rights Report’ contains the content that the Korean government is restricting the activities of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) related to North Korea such as North Korean refugee groups. I didn’t,” he said, saying, “It’s too early to comment before the announcement.”

Previously, some media reported that the US State Department canceled the permission to establish the North Korean defector groups’Free North Korean Movement Association’ and’Keun Saem’ in this’Korean Human Rights Report. It was reported that it was a repression of the active groups.”
