The Ministry of Unification said, “Our will to implement the inter-Korean agreement is firm” in relation to North Korea’s Chairman Kim Jong-un’s emphasis on implementing the inter-Korean relations agreement on the South through the 8th Labor Party Congress.

On the 9th, a spokesman for the Ministry of Unification, Yeo Sang-sang, commented on North Korea’s 8th party conference, saying, “The government’s position to pursue denuclearization, peace settlement, and development of inter-Korean relations on the Korean Peninsula is consistent.” We look forward to creating a new starting point for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula in the near future.”

Spokesman Ye added, “As the launch of the new US administration can be a good opportunity to improve US-North Korea relations, we look forward to the resumption of US-North Korea relations as soon as possible.”

The Chosun Central News Agency said in a report on the project summary of the 8th Labor Party conference held for the past three days (5-7), that Chairman Kim Jong-un expressed displeasure at the increase of the South’s armed forces and asked the South to faithfully implement the agreement.

Chairman Kim said, “At this point, there is no need to show goodwill to the South Korean authorities as before, and as we respond to our legitimate demands, we must deal with them as much as we move to implement the North-South Agreements.”

However, Chairman Kim said, “depending on the attitudes of the South Korean authorities, North-South relations may return to a new starting point for peace and prosperity in the near future, as in the spring of three years ago, as the Korean people wished.” It remains open.
