The Ministry of Science and Technology and Information and Communication cooperated with the Ministry of Health and Welfare Chong Kun Dang (185750)and Daewoong Pharmaceutical (069620)Announced on the 20th that it will support commercialization of two types of new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) treatments in the first half.

Through this year’s work plan announced the day before, the Ministry of Science and Technology said, “We will consult with the Ministry of Health and Welfare to apply Napamostat and Camostat, two types of drugs for the treatment of Corona 19, which have completed phase 2 through drug re-creation.

Napamostat and Camostat are the main ingredients of’Napabeltan’ and’Hoystar Tablet’, which are marketed by Chong Kun Dang and Daewoong Pharmaceutical respectively as a treatment for pancreatitis. Last year, researchers at home and abroad reported to the academic community that they had higher antiviral efficacy than remdesivir. Celltrion (068270)It is expected to be able to treat severely ill patients, unlike antibody treatments in Korea.

Both companies plan to apply for conditional approval to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as soon as they draw the phase 2 results. Together with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Science and Technology will support the efficacy and safety verification of these drugs and speed up commercialization.

The Ministry of Science and Technology also said, “A’semiconductor diagnostic kit’ that can check whether COVID-19 is infected in 3 minutes with a sensitivity of 95% or more is developed by a joint research team of domestic industry and academia, and will be commercialized for the first time in the world in March.” The government plans to ensure that the development of the domestic Corona 19 vaccine, which is continuously being promoted, will be carried out early, and will secure 3 sets for responding to Corona 19, including diagnostic kits, treatments, and vaccines within the year.

The assembly and movable negative pressure ward, which was developed by the research team of Professor Nam Taek-jin of KAIST’s Department of Industrial Design, and was piloted last month by the Korea Institute of Atomic Energy, is also promoting commercialization. To this end, additional pilot operations will be conducted until April. It is expected that a 136 pyeong (approximately 450㎡) negative pressure ward with 4 beds including general and critically ill patients can be installed where necessary within 5 days.

In the second half of the year, the Korea Virus Basic Research Institute was established and started operating under the IBS. In the future, it is expected to secure the original technology for developing a domestic vaccine that can respond to new infectious diseases.

Data dam that collects artificial intelligence (AI) learning data, expansion, next-generation AI capable of learning with a small amount of data, development of PIM semiconductor optimized for AI computation, expansion of the 5th generation (5G) mobile communication network and 6G/Quantum Accelerate the digital new deal by starting the development of core information and communication technologies. The 4th Industrial Revolution Committee, directly under the president of the Digital New Deal, will be reorganized into’Data Control Tower’ from this month. By 2025, a total of 58,200 billion won is expected to be created, creating more than 900,000 jobs.

We will prepare and support the development of 10 innovative technologies necessary to realize carbon neutrality in 2050 by March. Smart grids, hydrogen fuel cells, and small module reactors (SMR) are expected to be selected.

The Ministry of Science and Technology is also striving to enhance domestic aerospace competitiveness. The plan is to launch the first’next-generation medium-sized satellite’, which will open the era of civil satellite development, in March, and successfully launch the Nuri, a launch vehicle (rocket) developed with Korea’s first proprietary technology in October. A dedicated launch site will be built from this year to 2024 for the launch of solid fuel rockets whose use restrictions have been lifted due to the revision of the missile guidelines in July last year.

4 trillion won will be invested by 2030 to support the development of new bio technologies such as new drugs, medical devices, and regenerative medical technologies. The scale of research on localization of materials, parts and equipment will also be expanded by more than 1.5 times from 32 to 57 based on the research center.

Minister of Science and Technology Choi Ki-young said, “We will carry out the core tasks for early overcoming Corona 19, accelerating the digital transformation, and innovation in science and technology announced in the work plan with a sense of speed.”
