Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport recommends corrective action to Hyundai Motor Company

When the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport surveyed the indoor air quality of new cars on 7 cars manufactured and sold in Korea last year, it was found that the Hyundai Genesis SUV GV80 exceeded the toluene recommended standard. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport recommended corrective action to prevent recurrence of the same matters to the manufacturers of the vehicle model.

GV80 and Hyundai Motor (005380)Avante, Genesis G80, Kia Motors (000270)Sorento, K5, GM Korea Trail Blazer, and Renault Samsung XM3 were included.

Toluene is a volatile organic compound mainly emitted from the finish used in the interior of automobiles. Although it is not a carcinogen, it generates a odor peculiar to a new car and can cause headaches or eye pain in passengers. In the case of the vehicle, the history of external painting rework was confirmed and toluene particles in the paint used during the rework to shorten the painting drying time were estimated to have flowed into the vehicle.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has recommended standards for volatile hazardous substances emitted from indoor interior materials such as formaldehyde, toluene, ethylbenzene, styrene, benzene, xylene, allolein and acetaldehyde for newly manufactured and sold automobiles in Korea every year since 2011. I have been looking into whether it is satisfied.
