Ministry of Industry “North Korean nuclear power plant promotion document, dimension of ideas in preparation for inter-Korean economic cooperation”

[아시아경제 권해영 기자] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it was “idea level” while it was revealed that the document file containing the contents of promoting the construction of nuclear power plants in North Korea was deleted during the process of obstructing the audit of the Wolseong Unit 1 auditor.

An official from the Ministry of Industry explained on the 29th that “internal data reviewed simply in terms of ideas in case the inter-Korean economic cooperation will be activated in the future.”

According to the prosecution, officials of the Ministry of Industry, including Mr. A, who are accused of damage to public electronic records, violation of the Auditor’s Act, or intrusion, deleted 530 internal data related to nuclear power plants just before the audit of the Auditor. Among them, it is reported that many materials related to the North Korean nuclear power plant were included. The prosecution found that in the folders named’pohjois’ and’bukwonchu’, there were phased cooperation tasks to build the North Korean power infrastructure, the current status of the North Korean power industry, and the German integration case files.

It was also revealed that public officials of the Ministry of Industry reported to the Blue House that the board of directors of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), the operator of the Wolseong nuclear power plant, said that it was going to decide to suspend operation. A document that is supposed to be written on May 23, 2018 contained the content that “On June 15, the board of directors of KHNP will decide to close the Wolsong 1 early and immediately shut down the operation.” It was about three weeks before the KHNP board meeting.
