The government will invest 1.3 trillion won in energy technology innovation this year to realize the Green New Deal and carbon neutrality. Of this, it is planning to put 224.2 billion won in new projects in the first half of the year to accelerate the execution of research and development (R&D).

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced 119 new tasks for energy technology development in the first half of the 18th. The budget that the Ministry of Industry spends on energy technology development this year is KRW 1.13 trillion, up 19.1% from the previous year. This is an increase of nearly 200 billion won from 950 billion won last year. The Ministry of Industry plans to invest 214.2 billion won in new projects in the first half.

The new task was selected for 24 projects, including energy supply, demand technology, and infrastructure. Some projects, such as the energy manpower training project and infrastructure development, will be announced separately.

First of all, 56 new projects related to the Green New Deal and carbon neutrality (125.9 billion won), such as renewable energy, demand management, and GHG reduction, will be promoted in the first half of the year, and investments in hydrogen and fuel cells will be greatly expanded to revitalize the hydrogen economy.

In addition, the’Public Energy Lead Investment’ project (4.8 billion won) was newly established to create new markets through cooperation and investment with public enterprises, and the participation of public enterprises in the Request for Restriction of Bidding (RFP) was obligated by discovering 17 projects requiring participation by public enterprises. .

Along with this, investments in energy safety are also increased, such as carrying out new tasks to improve safety such as hydrogen charging stations and energy storage devices (ESS). Energy safety technology development this year was 30.2 billion won, an increase of 15.8% from last year.

In addition, the government appoints energy-specialized enterprises and expands the foundation for continuous technological innovation, such as promoting energy industry convergence complexes. It is also planning to promote support for energy innovative companies by promoting private investment attraction and improving the energy industry classification system.
