The Korean Medical Association promotes a plan to establish the Korean Medical License Management Institute (tentative name), which independently manages doctor’s licenses.

On the 20th, Chairman of the Medical Association Choi, Choi, held a press conference at the Medical Association’s temporary hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and said, “We will establish a systematic and unified independent management system for doctors’ licenses.”

Chairman Choi pointed out that “Korea’s doctor’s license is issued by the government, but the maintenance and management of licenses, reporting and renewal, and remedial education are separated from the public and private sectors, so the management system’s expertise is insufficient and inefficient.”

In addition, “the medical association has laid the foundation for self-regulation by operating the’Central Ethics Committee’ based on the medical law.” I will be able to build it up,” he said.

In the meantime, the medical association has announced several times that it will operate an independent license management body that has practical self-discipline for doctors.

The reason is that even if the Medical Association refers a doctor who has committed unethical behavior to the Central Ethics Committee and imposes disciplinary action such as suspension of membership, it cannot limit the license or medical practice itself.

Accordingly, the Korea Medical Association established a committee to establish the Physician License Management Center, and is pursuing an action strategy requiring revision of related medical laws. The goal is to establish a doctor’s license manager within this year.
