The first list of 84 people to participate in the 85th Masters Tournament to be held in April next year has been confirmed. Among Korean players, Lim Seong-jae (22) was the only Korean player to be on the list.
According to the information reported by the US Golf Channel on the 30th (Korean time), the final men’s golf world ranking in 2020 was announced on the 28th, confirming the first list to participate in the Masters. There are 19 conditions to participate in the Masters, of which 84 golfers who fit out of 17 conditions have been confirmed according to the announcement of the world ranking, and the invitation letter of the Masters was delivered to each player. Invitations have been sent to 20 past champions with lifetime qualifications, winners of major competitions for the last five years, players of the Players Championships for three years, winners and runner-ups of the US Amateur Championship and the winners of the British Amateur Championship. In addition, a golfer who won a tie for 12th place in the previous Masters, a golfer who was tied for 4th in the US Open and the PGA Championship, a PGA Tour winner since April, and a golfer in the world 50th place at the end of the year also received the Masters qualification.
Last month, at the 84th Masters in Asia, Seongjae Lim, the best runner-up in the tournament, was the only Korean player to be on the 85th Masters list. Kim Si-woo, 25, who was the winner of the 2017 Players Championship, was unfortunately missed the first invitation letter after the three-year deadline expired. The 85th Masters will be held on April 8-11 next year. If you win 13 PGA Tour competitions held until just before the Masters, or if you are within 50th place in the world rankings of March 30 next year, you can secure the Masters qualification.
