‘Project: Mara’ is a new horror work developed by Ninja Theory, famous for Hellblade, and was first released in January of last year. If you look at the teaser video at the time, you can see the interior of the building as if it was taken directly, and a developer diary video was recently released explaining that this scene is the background that can be seen in an actual game.

On the 19th, Ninja Theory released the third developer diary video of Project: Mara through its official YouTube channel. In this video, Tameem Antoniades, co-founder of Ninja Theory, presented in person and analyzed the background of the hyper-realistic game shown in the teaser video released last January.

Project: Mara’s spatial background is a luxury apartment, created based on an existing space. The developer’s diary video shows the two side by side, but if there is no explanation, it is hard to tell which one is the actual space.

In order to realize this realistic space, Ninja Theory photographed and scanned every corner of the real apartment, from stairs, walls and ceilings to inconspicuous corners. In addition, the textures such as dust, wallpaper, flooring, and kitchen utensils that fell on the corners or carpets connecting the floor and walls were realistically implemented.

Ninja Theory has collaborated with Clear Angle Studios, a 3D scanning company that has know-how in using LiDAR scanners to realize such a hyper-realistic background. “We are trying new things, and compulsive reality capture is one of them,” said Tamim Antoniades co-founder.

Project: Mara is a horror game created by referring to related research and experiences based on the mental horror that ninja theories may experience in real life. Game details, including release dates and supported languages, have not been released yet.
