LIG Group chairman Koo Bon-sang, who was handed over to trial for evading a tax of 130 billion won, completely denied the charges in the first trial.

According to the court on the 18th, Chapter 25-1 of the Criminal Agreement (presiding judges Kwon Seong-su, Park Jeong-je, Park Sarang) held the first trial of four of the LIG executives, including President Koo, President Koo Bon-yup, and four LIG officers who were charged with tax charges for violating the law on aggravated punishment for certain crimes. Chairman Koo said, “I deny the facts of public prosecution,” and said, “However, the specific facts have a vast record and the facts are complicated.”

He added, “Chairman Koo and President Koo were in prison, and this specific act of manipulation by hierarchies was very professional, so even when I heard the report, I didn’t know at all.”

Previously, Chairman Koo and President Koo were sentenced to four years in prison and three years in prison for fraudulent violations of the Act on aggravated punishment for specific economic crimes in 2014, respectively, and were imprisoned.

The second trial of President Koo and others is scheduled to take place on May 24th at 2pm.

In May 2015, Chairman Koo lowered the valuation of LIG shares (14,81 won per share), including the public offering price of its subsidiary LIG Nex1, to 3846 won per share, and remitted the money sold at the lowered price a month later to other shareholders. On December 19, last year, he was prosecuted without custody for manipulating financial transactions.
