In addition, the daughter of a city council member belonging to the Democratic Party appears to have bought land in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do before the announcement of the 3rd new city plan, which is causing controversy.

According to the SBS report on the 4th, the child of Siheung City Councilor A (in her 20s) bought the land (111m²) in Guarim-dong, Siheung City, for 100 million won in September 2018.

Guarim-dong is a place where a large number of employees of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) recently bought it, causing controversy over speculation. Mr. A’s land is known as a remote place near a waste disposal plant in Guarim-dong.

Mr. A purchased the land and changed its use from forest to land around 7 months, and built a two-story building. Last month, the Gwangmyeong and Siheung areas were selected as the 6th 3rd new city.

The problem is that Mr. A’s mother is a local city councilman. In particular, from the time Mr. A purchased the land to the present day, the city council member has been a member of a committee related to urban development and housing supply in the city council, raising controversy over conflicts of interest.

The city council member explained that he was introduced to SBS through a real estate he knew and recommended his daughter to buy it, but that in addition to the 5 million won that the daughter borrowed from him, he made the rest by himself through loans, etc.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party leadership apologized for the controversy over the city councilman. At the party’s policy coordination meeting, Kim Tae-nyeon said, “We are sorry for the suspicion of the Siheung City Councilman.

In this regard, Jeong Ho-jin, the chief spokesman of the Justice Party, criticized that “I took a part by swimming on the ground as a mother’s chance.”

Spokesman Chung said in a briefing at the National Assembly’s communication center, “There are not one or two local government heads who have raised suspicions of speculation, such as Yongsan-gu Mayor Sang-hyeon, who belongs to the Democratic Party. We need to do a thorough investigation on the issue,” he urged.
