LGU+ 5G robot monitors the air environment in Jeonju

<전주=박수형 기자> An autonomous robot that has left the charging station runs in India near the JTV Jeonju Broadcasting Office building. It is a robot that measures the atmospheric environment with a sensor mounted on the robot in an area close to the Palbok-dong industrial complex in Jeonju. Air environment monitoring information is delivered to the Jeonju city control center in real time via a 5G mobile edge computing (MEC) server in Gwangju.

LG Uplus signed an agreement with Jeonju City as an autonomous driving robot connected through a 5G network, and introduced six autonomous driving robots that measure air quality 24 hours a day and 20 fixed air quality measuring devices.

In addition to the Palbok-dong industrial complex, fixed air quality sensors were installed in major areas such as chronic districts and innovative cities. Separately, a robot capable of autonomous driving for a 1km course began monitoring the air environment in more detail for each travel section.

Nine kinds of atmospheric environments, including odor, fine dust, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide, are measured. The self-driving robot built with the tool space can be more detailed and easily grasped than the fixed sensor where it started from when an odor occurs.

After self-driving is completed once, it returns to the charging station in India, charges the battery, and starts self-driving to measure air quality again. That’s why you can walk around on your own every day with a battery charging station next to you and start monitoring the air environment.

With the video transmitted from the camera mounted on the self-driving robot, the control center can give an urgent control command. Robots connected by 5G can reduce the delay as much as possible because data transmission and processing are completed at the Gwangju MEC server without going through the core network in Seoul or Daejeon.

For example, if the scene in front of the robot is transmitted through the video control server, the control center can notify the surrounding citizens of the danger through the robot.

In addition to the basic setting of “a fire has occurred” from the speaker mounted on the robot when the smoke is rising, the robot can also make a sound of the phrase entered at the control center using the voice synthesis system (TTS) technology.

In addition to being used as an atmospheric environment monitoring robot in Jeonju, it has other uses as well.

A company official said, “Some local governments are also discussing the role of a companion robot to help women return home safely in dark alleys. This is because crime prevention can be improved through a robot that is patrolling rather than a fixed CCTV.”

He continued, “In petrochemical complexes that are not accessible to humans, such as those used in Jeonju, the number of cases of using them as gas leak monitoring robots in factories is increasing.” It will be used for “.

After the commercialization of 5G, LG Uplus focused on developing the 5G ecosystem in the B2C field by developing specialized services and launching the’XR Alliance’, a content alliance with global telecommunications companies. From this year, the second year of commercialization, it is expected that various types of innovation models will emerge as local governments expand the introduction of ESG.
