[IT비즈뉴스 최태우 기자] LG Display (LGD) unveiled its next-generation OLED TV panel at’CES 2021′ on the 11th.

The 77-inch next-generation OLED TV panel unveiled at CES 2021 is a product that newly developed and applied an organic light emitting device, the core of OLED image quality.

The management explained that the organic material was improved with a high-efficiency material, and the luminous efficiency of OLED was improved by about 20% compared to the previous one by adding one more layer that actually emits light in the device.

In particular, OLED TV panels have implemented infinite contrast ratio with’Pixel Dimming’, which precisely controls the light of about 33 million (8K standard) pixels one by one. I made it possible to feel the same picture quality.

LG Display explained that the recently released premium LCD TV has limitations in improving the contrast ratio with the’Local Dimming’ method, which divides the screen into 2,500 zones and controls it.

LG Display’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Yoon Soo-young said, “MicroLEDs can have excellent characteristics in self-luminescence, but it is not easy to bring a price point that is receptive. I think that OLED is the only technology that can match the high quality of picture quality and acceptable price in the current market.”

Unlike LCD, OLED emits less blue light, which is harmful to the eyes, and there is no flicker phenomenon, which causes the screen to flicker quickly.

Next-generation OLED TV panels are planned to be applied first to high-end models released this year, and then gradually expanded.

The lineup is further strengthened. In addition to the existing 88, 77, 65, 55, 48 inches, starting with the new mass production of 83-inch and 42-inch OLED TV panels from this year, the mid-sized line-up to the 20-30-inch range will be significantly expanded in the future. It is a strategy to expand to the domain.

It will also introduce differentiated products such as Film Cinematic Sound OLED (Film CSO), which has a slim design while having sound on the screen without a separate speaker.

Vice President Oh Chang-ho of LG Display’s TV division said, “We will expand our differentiated competitiveness and market dominance in the premium TV market through the evolution of OLED.”
