LG Innotek has developed a digital key module for vehicles with the industry’s highest level of location recognition accuracy and security.

On the 24th, LG Innotek announced that it will develop a digital key module to target the next-generation vehicle communication parts market and begin mass production from 2022.

The digital key module is a communication component that enables wireless data transmission and reception between a car and a smartphone by being mounted on a vehicle.

LG Innotek said, “The demand for digital key modules is increasing every year as the vehicle sharing industry such as car sharing and rental cars is growing recently.” It has improved the accuracy of location recognition by applying it. Along with this, it is also an advantage that security has been strengthened with its own communication hacking prevention technology.”

The digital key is a next-generation car key that allows you to open, lock or start a car door using a smartphone. Using this, the driver can control the vehicle with a smartphone, as well as view the vehicle status such as mileage, fuel economy, and tire pressure at a glance.

LG Innotek has improved the location recognition accuracy of the digital key module by 5 times compared to the previous one by applying UWB technology and its own algorithm.

For example, if the existing module recognizes that a smartphone located 5 meters away is between 4.7 and 5.2 meters, this module can be recognized relatively accurately as being located within 4.9 to 5 meters.

LG Innotek has further strengthened security by developing communication hacking prevention technology to prevent communication manipulation or interference between vehicles and smartphones. The company explained that it can significantly reduce vehicle theft accidents caused by loss of smartphones or hacking digital keys.
