The US International Trade Commission (ITC) gave LG Energy Solutions a hand in the battery lawsuit.
ITC announced on the 10th (local time) that in a lawsuit for infringement of trade secrets filed by LG Energy Solutions against SK Innovation, it has ruled against SK Innovation’s import of batteries in the US for 10 years.
The ITC reported the results to President Joe Biden and the US Trade Representative (USTR). If President Biden accepts the ITC decision, SK Innovation will be banned from manufacturing, sales, and imports in the United States.
The battery litigation battle began in earnest in April 2019 when LG Energy Solutions filed a filing with SK Innovation to the ITC (U.S. International Trade Commission), claiming that the company hiring more than 100 experienced employees in the battery field and stealing trade secrets.
SK Innovation’s hiring process was legitimate, and a three-year litigation battle continued, refuting to clarify the hijacked trade secrets. As SK Innovation’s alleged infringement of trade secrets is finally acknowledged, the electric vehicle battery business in the US is expected to become difficult.
