LG Electronics (CEO Koo Bon-jun) introduced the next-generation robot technology for the elderly.

LG Electronics will exhibit’Smart Walker’ for the elderly with limited mobility at the ‘2013 Korea R&D Daejeon’ held at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do on the 12th and 14th. The ‘2013 Korea R&D Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning is a venue for technology exchange to share and evaluate the results of national R&D projects.

The’Smart Walker’, a strength assistance system developed by LG Electronics, provides three functions: △walking, △sitting and standing, and △boarding. It is equipped with a smart pad and joystick so that users can use it easily and conveniently.

It senses the force the user pushes the joystick to drive the wheels and supports the walking motion according to the walking speed. In addition, when the user presses the button, the chair comes out and allows the user to rest in a sitting position when it is difficult to move. Like an electric wheelchair, you can move while controlling the speed while seated.

‘Smart Walker’ is the result of a national project in progress in cooperation with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Evaluation and Planning and the National Rehabilitation Center. The aim is to improve the welfare of the elderly and the infirm in order to cope with the aging era.

Min Byeong-hoon, head of LG Electronics’ Convergence Research Institute (Executive Vice President) emphasized, “We will continue to devote ourselves to the development of’good technology’ and’warm technology’ that pursue health and happiness of the elderly based on advanced R&D leadership and win-win cooperation.”
