SK hynix (000660)end Samsung Electronics (005930), Followed by Micron and began hiring careers in memory semiconductors such as DRAM. This year, with the supremacy of the next-generation DRAM technology, the world’s memory semiconductor’Big 3’began to recruit talent.

According to related industries on the 5th, SK Hynix will receive applications for experienced employees in the DRAM design sector by the 24th of this month. The academic background is at least a bachelor’s degree, and the major is at least 4 years of experience in electronics. No specific number of employees was specified. Earlier, at the end of January, SK Hynix announced the recruitment of experienced DRAM-related employees. The application deadline is on February 21st.

The reason that SK Hynix has been recruiting experienced DRAM-related employees from the beginning of this year is interpreted as the purpose of expanding market influence by developing next-generation DRAM this year. On the 1st of this month, SK hynix held a completion ceremony for the M16 plant that will mainly produce DRAM at its headquarters in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do. M16 is the size of eight soccer fields, and is the largest of SK Hynix’s domestic and overseas production facilities. In particular, the M16 is the first to introduce extreme ultraviolet (EUV) exposure equipment. Using this, it is planning to mass-produce the 4th generation 10-nano (1nm = 1/100m) class (1a) DRAM, which is the next generation DRAM from the second half of this year.

In addition to SK Hynix, rivals Samsung Electronics and Micron have also started hiring career positions side by side from the 1st of this month. Samsung Electronics has been receiving applications for experienced employees in the device solution (DS) sector in the first half of 2021 from the 1st. The deadline is until the 22nd of this month, and 10 organizations in the DS division, including the memory/system LSI/foundry divisions and the semiconductor research center, are hiring experienced positions. It is reported that a large number of next-generation semiconductor-related personnel will be recruited. Micron is also hiring experienced employees not only in the US, but also in Singapore and India.

The background of global semiconductor companies continuously securing human resources is the impact of facility investment expansion due to the announcement of the semiconductor supercycle (long-term boom). Market research firm Omdia predicts that the global semiconductor market will reach 489 billion dollars (about 550 trillion won) this year. This is an increase of about 8% from $451.5 billion last year. According to the Korea Employment Information Service and the Korea Industrial Technology Agency, the number of jobs in the domestic semiconductor industry in the first half of this year is expected to increase by 4,000 (2.9%) from the previous year. This is due to booming semiconductor exports, improving semiconductor market conditions, and increasing facility investment.
