‘Let’s do +1′ amid controversy over the’pre-election movement’ TBS subscription campaign ends

The power of the people announced that TBS would file a complaint with the Election Commission for the “Let’s do the ‘1 million subscription campaign’ #1” campaign, which TBS has been running since November, as a violation of the pre-election campaign. It is argued that it is a promotional message to vote for the Democratic Party together with symbol number 1. TBS countered that it was only a subscription encouraging campaign, meaning’if citizens subscribe to +1, they can work better’, as they used hash tag #1 let’s do +1 together.

On November 13, last year, TBS posted an announcement on the YouTube 1 million subscription campaign’Let’s do #1′ on the website. He subscribed to the’TBS Citizen’s Broadcasting’ YouTube channel, left a subscription verification shot, etc. on the event page, and added the hashtag’Let’s do #1′ to encourage sharing of the campaign video. The event was scheduled to be held from November 16, when the number of TBS YouTube channel subscribers exceeded 950,000, until the third week of December, but was extended because the goal was not achieved.

The JoongAng Ilbo on the 4th of the TBS event that has already ended “[단독] In an article titled’Let’s do 1’TBS campaign pre-election campaign controversy”, Eo-Jun Kim and Jin-woo Joo said, “I was belatedly caught up in the controversy of the pre-election campaign.” “Let’s do it (1)”, he reported. In the promotional video, TBS program hosts such as Kim Eo-jun, Joo Jin-woo, Kim Gyu-ri, Choi Il-gu, and Tei came out and said, “I have to work (1) now.”

The JoongAng Ilbo said it was the opinion of netizens and contained in the article that the TBS campaign was reminiscent of Democratic Party preference number 1. Next, the Chosun Ilbo “Let’s do 1’Let’s do 1’… TBS pre-election campaign controversy”, Financial News “Let’s do 1 Kim Eo-jun”… Reports such as’Controversy’, a pre-election campaign for the TBS 1 million subscription campaign, continued.

The opposition party continued raising concerns. In a statement that day, the Special Committee on the Power of the People said, “Considering that the 2021 by-election for the Seoul and Busan mayors is less than 100 days left, this is a pre-election campaign that explicitly promotes the Democratic Party’s preference No. 1” “At the moment, even in the Internet community such as MLBPARK, opinions are lined up in the Internet community, saying,’This is like an advertisement to shoot a specific party.’

The Power of the People Media Special Committee released a press release on November 30 of last year stating that the Central Election Commission will begin to manage the re-election by-election in earnest and specified the start date for registration of preliminary candidates for the by-election as December 8, as of January 4 The time point can also be interpreted as the period of the pre-election campaign, he said, “We plan to file a complaint with the prosecution tomorrow (5 days) as soon as possible after a strict legal review.”

The people’s strength is to promote the abolition of TBS’Kim Eo-jun’s News Factory’ as a pledge for the election of the mayor of Seoul.

In a commentary on the day, Hong Jong-ki, deputy spokesman for the power of the people, said, “It is a clear pre-election campaign as a publicity to vote for Democratic Party candidate No. 1, and it is a violation of the broadcasting law that regulates the political neutrality of broadcasting.” He said there was no such argument, but he demanded that he apologize after criticizing it as an excuse that cannot be made without looking down at citizens as dogs or pigs.

Accordingly, TBS is in a position that it has nothing to do with the pre-election campaign.

TBS said, “Let’s do +1” campaign is designed as a campaign in which citizens directly participate and subscribe to the process of becoming one million people, each citizen, in line with the channel identity of’Citizen’s Broadcasting’. “I used the homophoneic work and the number ‘1’, as in the catchphrase’Please give me 1 so that TBS can work.’”

Some articles, such as the Chosun Ilbo, reported that the color used in’Let’s do +1′ is blue, the symbol color of the Democratic Party, but TBS said, “(The color used in the campaign is mint color, the symbolic color of TBS, as cited in some articles.) It has nothing to do with it.”

TBS said, “We are ending the’Let’s do +1′ campaign as of today, taking some points that it may cause unnecessary misunderstandings ahead of the by-election.”
