Ten days have passed since the inauguration ceremony of President Biden of the United States (January 20) ended. However, the Federal Capitol, which used to be the inauguration hall, is still surrounded by tall barbed wire. It is a structure in which a circular laser wire with a sharp blade attached to the top of a sturdy steel fence is added. This is the result of the intrusion of Trump supporters on January 6, which caused a great shock.

There is controversy over what to do with this barbed wire surrounding the Capitol.
Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman, the incumbent Capitol Police Officer, recently made a proposal to strengthen security by building a permanent barbed wire around the Capitol. This is because it is difficult to completely protect a vast area with the Capitol Police alone. Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bauzer and several congressional officials issued a statement immediately condemning the sporadic proposal. However, mayor Bowser also said, “We need additional security measures for the time being, such as iron fences or military presence in the region.”

In February, the impeachment proceedings of former President Trump begin in the United States. When Trump supporters start to move, it won’t be easy to demolish the barbed wire at the Capitol. It seems unlikely that the Capitol, a symbol of American democracy, will sooner or later be freed from barbed wire.
