Legal response to trademark application for LX Koo Bon-jun new holding company… LG design is different

Responding to the use of the new mission’LX’… LG “Unlike trademark design, less misunderstanding”

When the new holding company of advisor Koo Bon-jun, a division from the LG Group, decided to set the new name’LX’, the Korea Land Information Corporation (LX), a public company that had been using the English name for 10 years, decided to take legal action.

LG, which is scheduled to confirm its new name at the shareholders’ meeting sooner or later, is refuting that there is little risk of misunderstanding because the brand designs are different.

LX announced on the 22nd that it plans to take legal action such as applying for temporary injunction to prevent LX Holdings, a new holding company of Adviser Ko Bon-joon, from using its mission.

According to LX, the Steering Committee of its board of directors held a meeting on the 19th and requested that the new LG holding company decide its name as LX and enforce a trademark application without prior consultation, and to come up with a legal plan to deter it.

LX directors expressed their concern that “The use of the same mission as the newly established holding company Koo Bon-joon is a free ride on LX’s accumulated knowledge and discrimination, and may increase the confusion of the public along with the decline in the credibility and public confidence of public institutions.” Said LX.

In 2012, LX unveiled a new corporate image (CI) and brand image (BI), and replaced billboards and outdoor advertisements at 12 regional headquarters and 169 branches.

Since then, it has been promoting the LX brand through TV, radio, and newspaper advertisements.

LX said, “In the last 10 years, we have invested 33.2 billion won in the LX branding business to establish the image of Korea’s only national territorial information agency.” “It has already exceeded 43,000 cases,” he explained.

LX said that the ODA project, which transfers LX’s advanced technology and know-how to developing countries, is a national project in collaboration with the government, the World Bank, and the United Nations. Emphasized.

In response, LG said, “I am sorry that the two companies have decided to come up with a legal plan on the 16th of this month as the two companies began to discuss ways to minimize confusion regarding the use of the mission and to find a plan for win-win cooperation.”

LG countered that “the trademarks of both companies are clearly distinguished, such as logos, designs, and colors, which are less likely to be misunderstood, and the contents of the business are completely different, so the argument from the construction side is not realistic.”

He added, “It is necessary to continue the dialogue so that the two companies can find ways to cooperate instead of unnecessary debates.”

LG plans to approve the plan to split the holding company including the LX Holdings mission at the regular shareholders’ meeting held on the 26th of this month.
