Broadcaster Lee Sang-min has been clarifying reports that he was accused of aggravated punishment for specific economic crimes, such as the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc.

Earlier, attorney Choi Yoo-jin of Seoul Central Law Firm (Yoohan) announced that he had sued Lee Sang-min to the prosecution last month on charges such as contributing to the specific economic crimes under the severe punishment law. According to attorney Choi, Lee Sang-min approached a complainant who was in the construction business in 2014 to allow him to receive a mortgage loan using his financial network, and was accused of stealing a total fee of 1.23 billion won. It is also suspected of asking for a false model agreement for a brand that has not been granted a building permit to hide the fact of illegal exploitation.
Attorney Choi argued that “Last 2014, Lee Sang-min was not a celebrity receiving billions of performance fees. (The model agreement) is to conceal the fact that Lee Sang-min received illegal loan fees.”
Regarding the reason for the addition of defamation along with the allegation, he explained that “Lee Sang-min deceived viewers as if he was a celebrity who has lived sincerely and disseminated many false facts, even though he was imprisoned, but he damaged my honor.” Still, he added, “We have secured evidence of Lee Sang-min’s bias through the forensic of the complainant’s mobile phone,” he added.
In this regard, Lee Sang-min strongly denies. He suggested a legal response to the false facts, saying, “I don’t want to get back on top of it because it’s really ridiculous.”
Lee Sang-min’s agency Stit Entertainment said, “The person who filed the complaint this time and reported it to the media was the person who sued Lee Sang-min for fraud in August 2019. The same person who filed the previous complaint filed a criminal complaint again for the same case. It was concluded with no charges, and the complainant filed an appeal by the prosecution, but even the appeal by the prosecution was dismissed, and the case was all confirmed as no charge.”
In addition, he added, “The complainant filed a criminal complaint with the same incident again over time and exposed it to the media. He made a false fact, filed a complaint, and exposed it to the media, thereby damaging Lee Sang-min.”
