Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, who was imprisoned in the’Gukjeong Nongdan’ incident and was sentenced to imprisonment at a remand for destruction and detained in court, decided not to reapply to the Supreme Court, and the special prosecutors also decided not to reapply.
Accordingly, Vice Chairman Lee’s sentence of two years and six months in prison was confirmed.
The special prosecutor said on the 25th that the judgment of “the case of bribery in support of the horseback riding and gifted centers sentenced by the 1st Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court was based on the purpose of the decision of the Supreme Court, and decided not to reapply.
The special prosecutor said, “The sentence of two years and six months of imprisonment to the accused Lee Jae-yong, who was sentenced to 5 to 9 years in prison, etc., was light in the light of the recognized crimes and sentencing standards, but it does not fall under the grounds for appeal. “There are no other legitimate reasons for appeal,” he explained.
“Therefore, among the cases prosecuted by the special prosecutor, the’Equestrian and Gifted Center support bribery case’ and’Jung Yu-ra University entrance examination and non-seon medical treatment cases’ were finished.” After being sentenced, the purpose of the special prosecution law to find out the truth of the’Gukjeong Nongdan suspicion case by a civilian’ was virtually achieved.
At the same time, the special prosecutor said that it would do its best to maintain the prosecution of the’cultural blacklist’ case, which is currently undergoing a revocation trial. In addition, he urged to promptly sentence the’ex officio abuse and dismissal case related to the approval of the merger of the National Pension Service’, which is currently pending in the Supreme Court.
Earlier, on the 18th, the 1st Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court (Chief Judge Jung Joon-young, Song Young-seung, Kang Sang-wook) sentenced Lee to two years and six months in prison.
Following the decision of Vice Chairman Lee’s sentence, he was arrested in February 2017 and sentenced to probation of execution for the second trial. He had to serve an additional period of about 1 year and 6 months, minus the 353 days he served before his release.
